UNT Music Student and Professional Musician: Viola

Caitlin

I finished the second shoot with Caitlin Cribbs this week. Between two different sessions we spent about six hours of actual shooting and I probably have another four hours in editing the images. We set incremental goals of clean head-shots for the first session followed by environmental portraits with her viola for the second session.

Caitlin is currently in her fourth year of pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance. She studies viola with Dr. Susan Dubois and Baroque viola with Cynthia Roberts. Caitlin is a member of the UNT Symphony and the University’s Baroque Orchestra. She has been playing Baroque viola for over three years, and also studies viola da gamba with Pat Nordstrom. Caitlin has played in masterclasses for Don McInnes, Randolph Kelley, and Helen Callus. She has also been coached in chamber music by members of the Avalon Quartet, Lafayette Quartet, and the Ying Quartet.

After graduating, Caitlin plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree in viola performance and early music performance.

I really like the second from the top shot. The performer’s posture and eye contact make her look very confident and relaxed. I also think it brings out the athleticism required to play viola. There is a lot of power emanating from this shot! Her hands look really strong, yet flexible and expressive. Love it. (I am Caitlin’s mom.)
